                              Welcome

Welcome at Coffeeshop Smokey, welcome to Amsterdam, the Venice of the north. Amsterdam is a city of contrasts, with respect to both it's structure and numerous different sights, as well as the attitudes of those who live here. For example if you go to the red light district it can be both intimidating and exciting, but you only need to walk for two minutes beyond it's boundaries to reach some of the most serene and picturesque sites on offer anywhere in the world. It is surprising that such paradoxes facets can exist in harmony in such close proximity and it's just 10 minutes away from the Rembrandt square. Entertainment is everywhere in Amsterdam: in the cinemas, clubs and theatres, but most of all on the streets. Tourist spots such as Rembrandt square and Dam attract every kind of street performer, day and night. Amsterdam is breathtaking by night. Many of the magnificent canal side buildings and most of the bridges are illuminated and the city is still alive and kicking at two in the morning.

The Netherlands' traditional pragmatism has affected it's laws surrounding recreational drugs. Since the Opium Act was amended in 1976, the use and sale of a small amount of soft drugs has no longer been regarded as a criminal offence.
However in true Dutch, bureaucratic style, you are allowed to possess a small amount of soft drugs, but you are not allowed to buy or sell it: work that one out! This generally liberal attitude has seen the rise of the 'smoking' Coffeeshop, as a retail outlet for hashish and marijuana, as well as the standard coffee and tea. With coffeeshops now part of the establishment, they are as varied as any other cafe in town. But one Coffeeshop in particular we would like to bring to your attention:

Coffeeshop Smokey at the Rembrandt square.

This multilevel Coffeeshop on the biggest square in Amsterdam is a must for everybody visiting Amsterdam.
